The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia had abandoned dormitory at the center of their campus. The seminary no longer needed such a large dormitory at the center of campus because of their student body. The seminary, however, needed new classroom spaces, gathering areas, and lecture halls. A portion of the old dormitory’s Wissahickon schist stone façade was preserved, and a new classroom building was sensitively constructed as a backdrop. The gesture honors the campus’s quadrangle while also allowing for new parking. Carl Emberger, Jr. assisted with many of the details and renderings that helped the seminary fundraise during his time at GYA Architects.
