Through the architectural design process campers build confidence, problem solving skills, perseverance, creativity, and friendships. Our “backyard camp” environment allows for direct instruction and a comfortable space for campers to make themselves at home, access architecture, and have fun. Campers will benefit from instruction with Carl Emberger, Principal of Canary Architecture.
Camp days will be split between independent hands-on activities focused on the basics of architecture and a group project. Campers will create an architecture firm to tackle brainstorming, create blue prints, digitally draw, and design interior mood boards. A sketching field trip to Longwood Gardens will highlight traditional, modern, and playful architecture to inspire their design. Campers will also build a public art sculpture together.
Campers will work together as an architecture and design studio to design a monument in celebration of the United States 250th birthday. Campers will take sketching and photography field trips in and around Philadelphia, work with design software, build a wood model, create marketing, and develop a digital presence to promote their work.
All materials for the week will be provided and campers will take a field trip. Campers will also receive a t-shirt, sketch book, and pencils. Campers will work collaboratively, problem solve, explore, and model ideas digitally and with a variety of materials.
