Brandywine Valley Baptist Church is a vibrant Christian community just north of the City of Wilmington. The former sanctuary was too small, forcing the church to manage many services so that the growing congregation could worship. A new, much larger place of worship filled the void where the former sanctuary was demolished. The project consisted of complicated renovations and new addition with a configuration requiring surgical precision. The new sanctuary now holds 760 congregants whereas the former sanctuary held only 432 congregants. The project included the renovation of existing wings, and the full church building was treated as three separate buildings divided with firewalls to gain the additional square footage needed. Carl Emberger, Jr. was the lead project architect for GYA Architects overseeing this project from early conceptual design through construction.
